Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced a Rs 1,000‑crore ten‑point package for flood‑affected farmers, artisans, fishermen and households across Odisha after reviewing preliminary damage reports.
The CM said the package amount may increase once the final assessment is completed.
Majhi emphasised the importance of ground surveys and personally inspected flood‑hit areas to gauge the extent of damage. He assured that the government’s priority is to deliver immediate assistance and restore normalcy.
Under the package, farmers suffering 33 per cent or more crop loss will receive compensation: Rs 8,500 per hectare for non‑irrigated land, Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated land, and up to Rs 22,500 per hectare for annual crops. Affected farmers will also get financial aid for seeds, free vegetable mini‑kits, and 75 per cent subsidy for pest‑related crop damage.
Damaged lift‑irrigation projects will be repaired on a war footing. Assistance will be extended for loss of livestock, ponds, boats and fishing nets. Short‑term kharif loans will be converted to medium‑term agricultural loans to ease financial pressure.
Artisans will receive Rs 5,000 each, while compensation will be provided for damaged household items and clothing. Cooked food, dry rations and relief rice will continue until conditions normalise.
Majhi said six districts – Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleshwar, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar – have been severely affected, with 74 blocks and 1,381 villages impacted and over 9.4 lakh people affected. Forty‑five ODRAF and eight NDRF teams are deployed. “Our target is zero casualty,” the CM stated, adding that preparedness has prevented loss of life despite widespread flooding.
