Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Dr Satyajit Behera, Assistant Surgeon at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, while he was allegedly accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from an NGO functionary.
The NGO had been engaged by the hospital to assist unknown and destitute patients arriving at the casualty ward. The functionary had been requesting Dr Behera since June to sign the work certificate of NGO employees, required for drawal of their June and July salaries. However, Dr Behera allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 to sign the certificate.
Facing harassment, the complainant approached Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Dr Behera red‑handed while accepting the bribe. The tainted money was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Dr Behera to investigate disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 19 dated 16.08.2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is in progress.
