Gajapati district police achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing anti-narcotics campaign by seizing 2,811 kg (2.8 tons) of ganja during a raid at Karigeju village under Adava police station limits.
The operation, led by SDPO Rakesh Sahu, IPS, involved a special team that combed the forest and hilly areas near the village early Monday morning.
Police recovered 113 plastic bags filled with ganja hidden in the area. The accused fled the scene, but investigators have identified them and launched efforts to arrest them. A case has been registered at Adava PS under the NDPS Act Section 20(b)(ii)(C).
Officials highlighted that Gajapati police have seized more than 12 tons of ganja in the past few months across multiple police station jurisdictions. Between November 18, 2025, and April 6, 2026, Adava PS registered 11 cases with 9,676 kg seized, while R. Udayagiri PS registered four cases with 2,825 kg seized.
Key recoveries included 4,040 kg from Keshariguda, 1,830 kg from Buripada, and 2,811 kg from Karigeju forests. Police confirmed that strict action continues against drug mafias operating in the region.
