Odisha has secured two prominent positions in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) revamped national organisational team announced by party president Nitin Nabin on Monday.
Senior Odisha leader Baijayant Panda will continue as the BJP’s national vice president, while Sambit Patra, the party’s Lok Sabha MP from Puri, has been assigned the responsibility of North-East Coordinator.
The appointments give Odisha a significant presence in the BJP’s national organisational structure at a time when the party is preparing for several important political battles across the country.
Baijayant Panda retained as national vice president
Baijayant Panda has been retained as one of the BJP’s national vice presidents in Nabin’s new team.
Panda, a former Lok Sabha MP from Kendrapara, has held several important responsibilities within the BJP’s national organisation. His continued presence in the top organisational team indicates the party’s reliance on his experience and organisational role.
His retention also ensures that Odisha continues to have representation at the senior-most levels of the BJP’s national structure.
Sambit Patra gets North-East responsibility
Sambit Patra, who represents Puri in the Lok Sabha, has been given the responsibility of North-East Coordinator in the new organisational setup.
Patra has been a prominent national face of the BJP and has frequently represented the party in national political debates and media interactions.
His new assignment is particularly significant given the BJP’s organisational and electoral focus on the northeastern states.
Odisha’s representation in BJP’s national setup
The inclusion of both Panda and Patra comes as Nitin Nabin seeks to build his own national team after taking charge as BJP president earlier this year.
The new team includes several prominent leaders, with the party also bringing back former Union minister Smriti Irani as a national general secretary and former national general secretary Ram Madhav as a national vice president.
For Odisha, the continuation of Panda and the new responsibility assigned to Patra underline the state’s importance within the BJP’s national organisation.
The two appointments could also further raise the profile of Odisha leaders within the party’s wider organisational strategy.
Nitin Nabin’s organisational overhaul
Nitin Nabin, a five-term legislator from Bihar and now a Rajya Sabha MP, became the BJP’s national president in January.
His new team includes 12 women and leaders representing different social groups as part of the BJP’s organisational and social-engineering strategy.
The reshuffle comes as the BJP prepares for upcoming assembly elections and seeks to strengthen its organisational machinery across states.
For Odisha, the retention of Baijayant Panda and the elevation of Sambit Patra to a key northeastern assignment mark notable developments in the party’s latest national reshuffle.
