The Odisha Milita Shikshak Sangathan staged a mass dharna at Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar on Monday, pressing a four‑point charter of demands that includes withdrawal of the decision to reappoint retired guest teachers and filling thousands of vacant posts.
Despite heavy rain, teachers from across the state gathered in the capital, demanding immediate recruitment of high school teachers, PETs, RHTs, and SSB TGTs. The organisation has called for the filling of nearly 45,000 primary teacher posts and 1,289 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya vacancies, urging the government to issue a fresh recruitment notification without delay.
Protesters argued that the shortage of teachers is hurting the quality of education, while thousands of qualified aspirants remain unemployed. They warned that reappointing retired teachers would jeopardise the future of young aspirants.
The Sangathan declared that the agitation will continue until demands are met, and could intensify if the government fails to act. Security arrangements were in place as the dharna proceeded peacefully.
Teachers urged the state to take immediate steps to address vacancies, stressing that only timely recruitment can restore quality education in schools across Odisha.
