BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has urged the party to accept his resignation from the organisation after his earlier resignation letter was rejected.
Poonawalla had offered to step down from all party positions and give up his primary membership of the BJP on July 30. The party, however, asked him to reconsider his decision.
In a fresh letter shared on Monday, Poonawalla said he was grateful that the BJP had initially declined to accept his resignation and had given him an opportunity to reconsider.
“After hard contemplation, I have arrived at a final decision that I would like to press for relieving me from my role as National Spokesperson and active primary membership of the BJP,” he said.
Poonawalla cites financial, personal circumstances
Poonawalla cited pressing financial and personal circumstances behind his decision to leave active politics and move to the private sector.
Despite seeking to leave the party, he expressed gratitude and respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nitin Nabin and senior leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BL Santosh.
He also thanked the party leadership for its support during his time with the BJP.
Shehzad Poonawalla had announced resignation in July
Poonawalla’s latest move follows his July 30 announcement that he wanted to resign from the BJP and all organisational responsibilities.
The BJP’s initial decision not to accept his resignation had led to uncertainty over his future in the party. His latest letter makes clear that he remains firm on his decision to leave his position as BJP national spokesperson and active primary member.
His decision now awaits formal acceptance by the party.
