The sixth annual festival of the Utkal University Old Students’ Association will be held on the university campus on August 21. Governor and Chancellor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has consented to attend the programme as the chief guest.
Association general secretary Debendra Prasad Das said in a press release that the day’s events will be organised in two phases. At 8 a.m., floral tributes will be offered at the university’s main gate and at the statues of eminent personalities on the campus. This will be followed by a campus parikrama starting from the Gandhi Shanti Sthal.
The main function will begin at 5 p.m. in the Convocation Hall. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chandi Prasad Nanda will be the guest of honour, while distinguished alumnus, film personality, former minister and former Rajya Sabha member Prashanta Nanda will deliver the keynote address.
On the occasion, four illustrious alumni will be felicitated: Prashanta Nanda; Odissi dance guru Padma Shri Kunkum Mohanty; Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award-winning scientist Prof. Uma Charan Mohanty; and noted administrator and the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Girish Chandra Murmu.
The programme will be presided over by the association’s president and former Director General of Police, Dr Satyajit Mohanty. Das has appealed to both former and present students of Utkal University to attend the event in large numbers.
