Floods have returned to Jajpur district, marking the fourth wave of inundation from the Baitarani River this year.
Rising waters in Baitarani, Brahmani, and Kharsrota rivers have breached danger levels, submerging vast areas and leaving thousands marooned.
At Akhuapada, Ballavighat, and Dasarathpur, the Baitarani has crossed danger marks, while the Brahmani’s rising waters caused an embankment breach at Banksahi. In Chandanpur and Arual, floodwaters gushed through damaged embankments, entering villages and inundating homes and farmland.
In Dasarathpur block’s Kuarnpur, nearly 40% of the Baitarani embankment collapsed, worsening the situation. Families are now living on embankments, rooftops, and relief shelters, struggling to cope with repeated floods. Crops have been destroyed, leaving farmers devastated.
The administration has begun repair works on breached embankments and is providing relief supplies to affected families. Akash Dasnayak, MLA and Planning Board Chairman, said special attention is being given to vulnerable embankments and flood‑hit villages.
Officials confirmed that despite earlier repairs, repeated floods have weakened embankments, allowing water to re‑enter villages. The situation remains grim in Dasarathpur, Bari, and Rasulpur blocks, with widespread crop loss and displacement.
