Odisha is bracing for another spell of heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast.
The weather system has developed under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation and is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, districts in northern and southern Odisha are expected to receive significant rainfall. Several areas may also experience thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rain likely in several districts
Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kataka and Kendrapada are among the districts likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Kendujhar may experience particularly intense rainfall on Thursday and Friday. Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagada, Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Anugola, Dhenkanal and Jajpur may also witness heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Several districts in southern and western Odisha are likely to receive isolated rainfall. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur at various locations across the state.
Wind speed may reach 40 kmph
The Regional Meteorological Centre has indicated that wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kmph in some areas amid the developing weather system.
Residents are advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning and follow weather advisories issued by the authorities.
The latest weather development comes as Odisha continues to experience active monsoon conditions, with the new low-pressure area expected to influence rainfall over the state.
