The Odisha Energy Department announced today the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025, scheduled to take place in Puri, Odisha, from December 5 to 7, 2025.

The event’s logo, symbolising harmony between nature and innovation, was unveiled today by Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, alongside Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy, Agriculture, & Farmer Empowerment, Odisha. The official website for the Summit, www.gelsodisha2025.com, was also launched.

The theme of the Summit is “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation.” These three interconnected priorities aim to ensure sufficient and efficient power, balance ecological and economic needs, and foster innovative solutions in the energy sector.

GELS will bring together Union and State Energy Ministers and Secretaries, policymakers, innovators, researchers, and industry leaders to drive a shared energy future for India. The Summit will initiate a platform for dialogue between energy leaders from various states and national and global leaders in the sector.

The discussions will focus on addressing India’s rising energy demand and enhancing the reliability and security of supply, promoting sustainable growth without compromising ecological concerns, and accelerating the energy transition through advanced technologies and digital tools. Key topics will include small and modular nuclear plants, green hydrogen, and grid digital security.

This high-impact initiative is organised in partnership with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). It marks the first pan-India initiative of its kind, following successful similar forums for Education Ministers and Secretaries in Latin America. The Tony Blair Institute, UK, has also established a community of Energy Ministers from African nations.

Speaking about the initiative, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, expressed his support, stating, “Energy sufficiency is not just about meeting demand but ensuring reliability and resilience. GELS will play an important role in achieving Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability and cooperative federalism, helping India achieve Net Zero by 2070.” He added that the Summit “reflects India’s commitment to an innovation-driven, sustainable energy future.”

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, expressed pride in hosting a Summit of this scale, bringing together global leaders and fostering a community of practice among Energy Ministers. “Through GELS 2025, we aim to create a platform where states can learn from one another and translate innovation into progress, inspired by PM Modi’s vision of a stronger and more active role for states,” he said.

Energy Ministers from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan have been invited and are expected to attend. Leading think tanks from India and abroad, along with renowned international experts Gareth Walsh and Pierre Noel from the Tony Blair Institute, will participate in the Summit.

Under the leadership of KV Singh Deo, who is spearheading the GELS 2025, the event aims to move beyond discussions towards tangible results. As he remarked, “GELS 2025 is not just about dialogue but about delivery. Every session will conclude with actionable outcomes—clear roadmaps, toolkits, and measurable goals.”
