The Odisha government has sounded a Covid alert in border districts after neighbouring Andhra Pradesh reported two suspected Covid‑19 deaths in Kadapa.
Public Health Director Dr Rabindranath Mishra confirmed that precautionary measures are being stepped up, though no major cases have been detected in Odisha so far.
Dr Mishra said, “Covid monitoring is ongoing across Odisha, and tests are being conducted regularly. So far, all reports have been negative. People need not panic, though we are keeping a close watch.”
The Health Department has directed Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) in southern districts bordering Andhra — including Ganjam, Gajapati, and Koraput — to intensify screening at entry points and ensure immediate testing of suspected cases. Hospitals have been instructed to keep isolation beds and facilities ready.
The alert comes ahead of the Rath Yatra, which will bring lakhs of devotees to Odisha. Officials stressed that anyone showing Covid‑like symptoms during the festival will be tested and managed under standard protocols. Citizens have been urged to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and follow hygiene practices.
