Morocco Fight Back with Last-Minute Equaliser
The Netherlands appeared to be heading for victory after Cody Gakpo gave the Dutch side the lead midway through the second half.

Just when the Netherlands looked set to progress, Morocco found a dramatic equaliser in first-half stoppage time of extra time. Defender Issa Diop headed home from Chemsdine Talbi’s cross, forcing the match into penalties.
Bounou Delivers Again in Shootout
The penalty shootout proved tense from the outset.
Although Neil El Aynaoui missed Morocco’s opening penalty, the Atlas Lions recovered impressively.

Morocco sealed a 3-2 shootout victory, sparking celebrations among players and supporters.
Goalkeepers Shine in Entertaining Contest
The match featured several outstanding saves from both goalkeepers.
Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen denied Morocco on multiple occasions, producing excellent stops to keep out efforts from Neil El Aynaoui, Achraf Hakimi, and later Soufiane Rahimi during extra time.
At the other end, Bounou remained composed throughout the contest before making the crucial penalty save that secured Morocco’s qualification.
Physical Battle Goes the Distance
The knockout tie was fiercely contested, with both teams creating chances in an intense encounter.
Morocco looked dangerous from set pieces and quick attacks, while the Netherlands enjoyed long spells of possession but struggled to convert opportunities against Morocco’s disciplined defence.
The match remained level after 120 minutes before Morocco prevailed from the penalty spot.
