Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay faced a police case on Tuesday for violating election conduct rules during a public gathering in Chennai.

The complaint was filed at Peravallur Police Station by Flying Squad Officer Kumar.

According to the complaint, Vijay used around 30 loudspeakers during the event, drawing a crowd of more than 5,000 people. The gathering reportedly obstructed a public pathway and blocked the movement of an ambulance, raising concerns over public safety.

Police registered a case under five sections, including charges related to public nuisance, unlawful assembly, and obstruction of public ways. The case names Vijay along with nearly 5,000 party workers.

Vijay had recently announced his decision to contest from the Perambur and Trichy East constituencies. His entry into electoral politics drew significant attention, and the massive turnout at the gathering reflected his popularity.

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. Authorities emphasised that strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct remains essential to ensure fair elections.
