Odisha Speaker Surama Padhy announced the formation of more than 35 committees of the Legislative Assembly for the financial year 2026‑27.
The move strengthens legislative oversight and ensures smooth functioning of the House.
The Rules Committee will be chaired by the Speaker herself. Its members include senior ministers Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, and MLAs Pratap Keshari Deb, Tusharkanti Behera, and Sagar Charan Das.
Jayanarayan Mishra will lead the Committee of Privileges. The members include Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Congress Legislature Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam, Niranjan Pujari, and Prasanna Acharya.
Pramila Mallik, Chief Whip of the Biju Janata Dal Legislature Party, has been nominated as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee. Irasis Acharya will head the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, while Prasanta Kumar Jagadev will chair the Committee on Petitions.
In another significant development, Akash Dasnayak has been appointed Chairman of the Library Committee. This committee notably includes 11 suspended MLAs as members.
The constitution of these committees highlights the Assembly’s focus on accountability, transparency, and effective governance.
