The Government of India has, for the first time, officially disclosed the names of six Indian military personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, the cross-border military operation launched against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in May 2025.
The names have been added to the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website and engraved at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, marking the first formal public acknowledgement of the armed forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the operation.
Six Personnel Honoured at National War Memorial
The six fallen personnel are:

- Rifleman Sunil Kumar (Vir Chakra) – 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry
- Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar – 5 Field Regiment
- Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik – 851 Light Regiment
- Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh – 237 Field Workshop Company
- Sergeant Surendra Kumar (Vayu Medal) – 39 Wing, Indian Air Force
Their names have been engraved on Wall 3D of the National War Memorial under the 2025 Roll of Honour.
First Official Confirmation of Operation Sindoor Casualties
Until now, the government had not officially released the identities of military personnel who were killed during Operation Sindoor, despite widespread reports and public speculation following the conflict.
The publication of the names at the National War Memorial serves as the government’s first official confirmation of the personnel who lost their lives during the military operation.
Operation Sindoor Launched After Pahalgam Terror Attack
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians, most of them tourists, were killed.
The Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror-linked locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation targeted infrastructure associated with terror groups, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Military operations concluded after India and Pakistan agreed to halt hostilities on May 10, 2025, following talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
Army and Air Force Personnel Among the Fallen
The six names reflect the joint nature of Operation Sindoor, involving coordinated action by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.
Among those honoured are Rifleman Sunil Kumar, who was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for gallantry, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar, a recipient of the Vayu Medal, highlighting the courage displayed by decorated service personnel during the operation.
National War Memorial Honours the Fallen
The National War Memorial, inaugurated in 2019 near India Gate in New Delhi, commemorates members of the Indian Armed Forces who have laid down their lives in service of the nation after Independence.
With the inclusion of these six names, Operation Sindoor now becomes part of the memorial’s permanent Roll of Honour, ensuring that the sacrifice of the fallen soldiers is formally recognised and remembered.
