The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, has issued an Orange Warning for six districts in Odisha as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to impact several parts of the state over the next few days.

With the southwest monsoon now covering the entire state, weather conditions have turned increasingly active, bringing widespread rain and unstable atmospheric conditions across Odisha.

Orange Warning Issued for Six Districts

According to the latest forecast, the following districts have been placed under an Orange Alert for the next 24 hours:

  • Koraput
  • Malkangiri
  • Nabarangpur
  • Rayagada
  • Nuapada
  • Kalahandi

These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning activity, and strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.

Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging and localized flooding.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity to Continue

The Meteorological Centre has warned that the active monsoon system may trigger continuous rainfall across southern, western, and interior Odisha.

Several regions have already witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall following the full advancement of the southwest monsoon over the state.

Experts believe the current weather pattern could result in temporary disruptions to transportation, farming activities, and daily life in some districts.

Yellow Warning for Several Districts

Apart from the Orange Alert districts, the weather office has also issued a Yellow Warning for multiple districts due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall.

Overall, weather advisories have been issued for 24 districts across Odisha, indicating a widespread impact of the monsoon system.

Heavy Rainfall Likely Till June 28

The Regional Meteorological Centre has extended its rainfall warning for several districts, including:

  • Nuapada
  • Balangir
  • Kalahandi

These districts are expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall until June 28, raising concerns about water accumulation and localized flooding in vulnerable pockets.

Advisory for Residents

Authorities have urged residents to:

  • Avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
  • Stay indoors during lightning activity.
  • Follow updates issued by local administrations and weather agencies.
  • Exercise caution while travelling in rain-affected areas.
  • Farmers should take necessary precautions to protect crops and livestock.

Monsoon Gains Strength Across Odisha

The complete advancement of the southwest monsoon has significantly increased rainfall activity across Odisha. Weather experts expect intermittent showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds to continue in several districts over the coming days.

Citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins as the monsoon system remains active across the state.
