A law-and-order situation reportedly unfolded at the Mahakalpara Block Office on Thursday after Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikhiri Gram Panchayat, allegedly created a disturbance during an official meeting and later misbehaved with police personnel who were called to the spot.

According to reports, Ojha arrived at the Mahakalpara Block Office where an official meeting was underway. During the proceedings, she allegedly engaged in a heated altercation with the Block Development Officer (BDO) and other officials over official matters, leading to disruption of normal administrative work.

As the situation escalated, police personnel from Mahakalpara Police Station were deployed to maintain law and order. Despite repeated requests from administrative and police officials to maintain decorum, Ojha allegedly continued her unruly behaviour and obstructed public servants from performing their official duties.

Police sources stated that while officers were attempting to restore normalcy and take lawful action, Smt. Ojha and her associates allegedly used abusive language, obstructed official work, physically resisted police intervention and misbehaved with law enforcement personnel.

During the incident, three police personnel — a Lady Sub-Inspector, a Lady Home Guard and an OAPF personnel — sustained injuries. All three were subsequently medically examined and treated at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Mahakalpara. Medical reports reportedly confirmed injuries sustained during the incident.

Based on separate complaints filed by the BDO, Mahakalpara and police personnel present at the scene, two cases were registered at Mahakalpara Police Station:

  • Mahakalpara PS Case No. 170/2026 based on the complaint of the BDO regarding obstruction of a public servant, misbehaviour and alleged unauthorised videography inside the official chamber.
  • Mahakalpara PS Case No. 171/2026 based on the complaint of SI Tapaswini Biswal regarding alleged assault on police personnel, obstruction of public servants, criminal intimidation and related offences.

Following her arrest in connection with the cases, Ojha was produced before the court. During the forwarding process, she allegedly created another disturbance and complained of chest pain and physical discomfort. In view of her medical condition and as per due procedure, she was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for medical examination and treatment.

While undergoing treatment, Ojha reportedly alleged that she had been assaulted by police personnel. However, according to preliminary verification conducted by the police, the allegation is not supported by the available evidence.

Police authorities stated that witness accounts, available evidence and medical reports indicate that police personnel sustained injuries while performing their lawful duties in managing the law-and-order situation.

Further investigation into both cases is currently underway.
