In a swift afternoon operation on 17 August, Jagatsinghpur Sadar police raided a rented house in the Purohitpur area that was allegedly being used for run sex racket.
The raid led to the rescue of two young women and the arrest of the alleged operator, along with three customers.
According to police, the illicit activity had been going on for a long time inside a rented house in the village. Acting on specific information, officers reached the location and conducted the raid. Two other young men and one young woman managed to escape during the operation.
The kingpin reportedly told investigators that after the death of her first husband, she remarried a man from the Jagatsinghpur area. To support herself, she claimed she began the illegal business, both participating herself and occasionally bringing young women from outside to work. Customers allegedly paid ₹500 each; she kept ₹200 and gave ₹300 to the women involved.
SDPO Dibyaranjan Nath stated that kingpin’s second husband was assisting her in the operations. The police seized 10 mobile phones, ₹3,750 in cash, some stimulating tablets, and other objectionable materials from the spot.
This is the second such action in the district in recent days. Last week, Tirtol police had raided a similar setup in Rahama market and arrested five people, including the same kingpin.
Authorities say Operation Asha Jyoti is being intensified across Jagatsinghpur to crack down on such rackets operating with impunity. The raid team included IIC Sushant Kumar Sahu, Additional IIC Tapaswini Kanunago, Brahmananda Panda and Pushpita Pradhan.
Police continue to investigate the network and are looking for the three people who fled the scene.
