The Sambalpur district administration suspended Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) Surendra Sa after allegations surfaced that he demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 to process an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate.
According to the official order issued by the Establishment Section of the Collectorate, Sa, who served in the Sadar-IV RI Circle under Sadar Tahasil, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. Authorities invoked the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962, to initiate disciplinary proceedings.
The order directed Sa to remain under the administrative control of the Sub-Collector, Kuchinda, who will serve as his headquarters during the suspension period. He cannot leave headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority. As per service rules, he will receive a subsistence allowance under the Orissa Service Code.
Officials confirmed that the suspension followed a complaint alleging that Sa demanded money to expedite the issuance of an EWS certificate within a day. The matter prompted swift administrative action by district authorities.
