Odisha has taken a major step towards strengthening its technology ecosystem with the inauguration of new centres focused on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and Japan-linked technology collaboration in Bhubaneswar.

The initiative is aimed at accelerating innovation, developing future-ready skills and creating new opportunities for high-skilled professionals in the state.

The AI, Robotics and Japan Centre of Excellence at the NITKAL Enterprise Services campus is expected to serve as a platform for technology development, industry collaboration and advanced skill building. The initiative also includes a SAP Global Capability Centre (GCC) linked to Japan, adding an international dimension to Odisha’s growing technology ecosystem.

Odisha expands focus on emerging technologies

The new centres come as Odisha steps up its focus on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors and digital infrastructure.

The facilities are expected to support research and innovation while encouraging stronger collaboration between industry, educational institutions and technology professionals.

For students and skilled professionals in Odisha, the initiative could create opportunities to build expertise in rapidly growing technology sectors and access careers linked to global businesses.

Japan partnership adds global dimension

The Japan-focused Centre of Excellence is expected to strengthen technology and business collaboration between Odisha and Japanese companies.

The presence of a Japan-linked SAP Global Capability Centre could further enhance Bhubaneswar’s appeal as a destination for global technology and business-service operations.

Such partnerships can also help create opportunities for knowledge exchange, technology adoption and workforce development.

From ‘Make in Odisha’ to ‘Innovate in Odisha’

Odisha’s technology push reflects a broader shift towards building a knowledge-driven economy.

The state has introduced policies focusing on areas such as AI, semiconductors and global capability centres as it seeks to attract technology investments and expand skilled employment.

The latest initiative supports the state’s ambition to move beyond manufacturing and investment-led growth towards innovation and technology-driven development.

New opportunities for Odisha’s youth

The centres are expected to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce capable of working in advanced technology fields.

AI, robotics, semiconductor technology and global capability centres are among the sectors that could generate high-value employment and entrepreneurship opportunities as Odisha expands its digital economy.

The initiative also has the potential to strengthen connections between businesses, technology institutions and young professionals, helping Odisha build a stronger innovation ecosystem.

With Bhubaneswar emerging as an increasingly important technology destination, the new centres mark another step in Odisha’s effort to establish itself as a future-ready technology and innovation hub.
