The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a seven-day weather forecast for Odisha, warning of widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of the state until June 21, 2026.

According to the forecast, weather conditions will remain active throughout the week, with Orange and Yellow warnings issued for multiple districts. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Activity Across Odisha

The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall at many places in coastal, southern and interior Odisha. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are likely to affect several districts during the forecast period.

On June 15, districts such as Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal and Koraput are under an Orange Warning. These areas may experience heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kmph.

Several other districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Rayagada and Malkangiri, are expected to witness thunderstorm activity and gusty winds.

Orange Warning for Multiple Districts

The weather department has identified a number of districts that may face more intense weather conditions over the coming days.

On June 16, Orange Warnings have been issued for Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam.

On June 17 and June 18, severe thunderstorm activity is likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam.

These districts may experience heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds capable of causing localised damage.

Weather Conditions to Continue Until June 21

Rainfall activity is expected to continue across Odisha from June 19 to June 21. While the intensity may reduce in some areas, scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely to persist.

Yellow Warnings remain in place for several districts, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms with wind speeds between 40 and 50 kmph.

Possible Impact

The IMD has cautioned that strong winds and heavy rain may affect agriculture, horticulture and infrastructure in some regions.

Possible impacts include:

  • Damage to banana plantations and standing crops
  • Falling tree branches and disruption of power supply
  • Minor damage to temporary structures
  • Waterlogging in low-lying areas
  • Reduced visibility during intense rainfall

Safety Advisory

The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning activity.

People are encouraged to:

  • Stay indoors during severe weather
  • Avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms
  • Secure loose outdoor objects
  • Follow official weather updates regularly
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall

With monsoon activity strengthening over Odisha, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge residents to remain prepared for changing weather conditions.
