In a heartwarming story of brotherhood and shared dreams, twin brothers from Odisha have captured national attention after making an extraordinary academic decision following their success in JEE Advanced 2026.
Maharuf and Masroor, who spent three years preparing for one of India’s toughest entrance examinations in Kota, achieved remarkable results. Maharuf secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 32, while his twin brother Masroor earned AIR 169.
While Maharuf’s rank easily qualified him for the prestigious Computer Science Engineering (CSE) program at IIT Bombay, he chose a different path. Instead of joining what many consider India’s most sought-after engineering course, he opted for IIT Madras so he could continue his educational journey alongside his brother.
A Decision Driven by Brotherhood
The twins say their success was built on years of studying together, helping each other solve difficult problems and staying motivated through the intense pressure of JEE preparation.
From classroom discussions to late-night revision sessions, the brothers relied heavily on each other throughout their academic journey. Their strong bond ultimately influenced Maharuf’s decision to prioritize togetherness over individual prestige.
According to the brothers, their achievements are not separate successes but the result of a shared effort that began years ago.
Three Years of Dedicated Preparation
The twins moved to Kota, Rajasthan, one of India’s leading coaching hubs, to prepare for JEE Advanced. They followed a disciplined routine involving coaching classes, self-study sessions, mock tests and regular revision.
Their consistent dedication paid off when both secured outstanding ranks in one of the country’s most competitive examinations.
Their achievement highlights not only academic excellence but also the value of perseverance, teamwork and family support.
Parents Made Significant Sacrifices
Behind the twins’ success lies the unwavering support of their parents.
Their father, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan, serves as the in-charge of the dispensary at IIT Bhubaneswar. Their mother, Dr. Zeenat Begum, made a major personal sacrifice by leaving her job and relocating to Kota with the twins to support their preparation.
Dr. Khan has publicly credited much of their achievement to his wife, acknowledging her role in creating a supportive environment during the crucial years of preparation.
Her dedication ensured the twins remained focused on their goals while receiving the guidance and encouragement they needed.
Choosing Engineering Over Medicine
Coming from a family of medical professionals, the twins could have easily pursued careers in medicine. However, both chose engineering and worked relentlessly toward earning seats at India’s premier engineering institutes.
Now, as the counselling process begins, the brothers are preparing to start the next phase of their academic journey at IIT Madras, where they plan to pursue Computer Science together.
A Story Inspiring Students Across India
As thousands of students celebrate their JEE results and make important career decisions, the story of Maharuf and Masroor stands out for a reason beyond ranks and admissions.
Their journey reflects the importance of family support, determination and the belief that success becomes even more meaningful when shared with loved ones.
While many students dream of securing admission to top IITs, these Odisha twins have shown that sometimes the most memorable achievement is choosing togetherness over individual glory.
