Berhampur Sadar Police arrested more than 20 people during a raid on a gambling den at Rohiga, where land deeds were allegedly used as stakes.
Acting on a tip‑off, a police team stormed the den and found participants betting large sums of money. Investigators discovered that gamblers pledged land documents, and in some cases, agreements were prepared to sell property if owners lost.
During the raid, some gamblers resisted, leading to a scuffle, while several others fled. Police seized ₹5.50 lakh in cash, 19 motorcycles, a Hyundai Creta car, and multiple land deeds. The operation exposed a dangerous trend of property being gambled away in Berhampur.
Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M confirmed strict action against those involved in the gambling racket. Authorities launched further investigations to identify and apprehend those who escaped.
