GT Explode to 229/4 – Can CSK Chase History or See Playoff Dreams Shattered?

The Narendra Modi Stadium was rocking as Gujarat Titans posted a formidable 229 for 4 in their 20 overs, setting Chennai Super Kings a daunting target of 230 in what could be a season-defining clash in Match 66 of TATA IPL 2026.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping to exploit any early moisture and restrict the high-flying Titans. But GT’s top order had other ideas. In a display of pure dominance, captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan turned the game into a boundary-hitting exhibition right from the powerplay.

Gill, ever the elegant aggressor, blazed away to 64 off just 37 balls, peppering the ropes with 7 fours and 3 sixes. His innings was a perfect blend of timing and power, setting the tone for a total that looked beyond reach. Sudharsan, the calm anchor with a touch of class, complemented him beautifully, finishing unbeaten on 84 off 53 deliveries (7 fours, 2 sixes). Their partnership laid the foundation for GT’s highest total of the season so far.

The Titans’ top order did exactly what the home crowd expected – they went hard and went big. Even after Gill’s departure, the momentum never dipped, and the death overs saw GT accelerate further to cross the 220-run mark comfortably. Mukesh Choudhary picked up the only notable wicket for CSK, finishing with 1 for 36, but the rest of the bowling attack was taken to the cleaners as the Titans flexed their batting depth.

With 16 points from 13 games, GT have already secured their playoff spot and are now gunning for a top-two finish to enjoy home advantage later. For CSK, however, this is do-or-die territory. Sitting on the edge of elimination, they must chase down 230 and hope for favourable results elsewhere to keep their playoff dreams breathing. The Yellow Army knows one thing: their batting lineup has the firepower, but 11.5 runs per over against a strong GT attack will test even the best.

The stage is now set for a blockbuster second innings. Will CSK’s big guns fire under pressure, or will GT’s bowlers defend this mountain? One thing is certain – the Narendra Modi Stadium is primed for another unforgettable night of TATA IPL cricket.

Chase begins!
