Odisha doctors strike OMSA

The Odisha government has made a strong appeal to doctors protesting under the banner of the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) to immediately withdraw their agitation, return to duty, and join constructive discussions with the administration.

Emphasising that patient welfare remains the top priority, the state has assured that all necessary arrangements are in place to keep health services running smoothly across Odisha without any disruption. Peace and order have been maintained, and essential medical care continues uninterrupted in every district.

Extensive talks had already taken place before the strike began. The Health & Family Welfare Minister, along with senior officials including the Commissioner-cum-Secretary and Director of Health Services, held detailed discussions with OMSA representatives. Multiple rounds of dialogue followed at the departmental level.

The government highlighted that several long-standing demands of doctors have already been fulfilled. These include cadre restructuring, Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP), Special Incentives, Place-based Incentives, and enhanced facilities for higher medical education.

While remaining sensitive to the legitimate and rational demands of the medical community, the government has made it clear that the interests of patients and the continuity of healthcare services will not be compromised. Doctors have been requested to resume work immediately. Once they return to their duties, the government has expressed full readiness to hold meaningful, constructive talks on pending issues.

Invoking the principle “Service is the Supreme Religion”, the government appealed to the agitating doctors to withdraw their protest and restore normal patient care as before. It cautioned that any disruption affecting patients’ interests or health services would compel the administration to take necessary steps.
