Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has described the sacred Chandan Yatra as a “glorious saga of Odia Asmita,” underlining its deep cultural and spiritual importance.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister emphasised how the festival reflects the rich heritage, devotion, and identity of the people of Odisha.
Divine Boat Ride at Narendra Pushkarini
Highlighting a key ritual of the festival, Majhi referred to the ceremonial boat ride of deities in the sacred Narendra Pushkarini in Puri.
He noted that this tradition, where deities are taken on a cooling boat journey during the summer season, symbolises both devotion and compassion. The ritual is associated with Jagannath, revered locally as Mahaprabhu.
‘Beyond Tradition, A Pinnacle of Spirituality’
In his message, the Chief Minister described the festival as more than a ritual, calling it a “pinnacle of world spirituality.” He highlighted the harmonious blend of divine leelas (acts) and human connection that the festival represents.
Majhi added that such traditions enrich cultural consciousness and strengthen the collective identity rooted in heritage and faith.
Message of Prosperity and Well-being
Concluding his message, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the blessings of Mahaprabhu bring prosperity, peace, and well-being to all.
He described Chandan Yatra as a “nectar stream” of Odisha’s cultural legacy that continues to inspire generations.
