Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited Drishyam: The Conclusion has opened in theatres across India on Gandhi Jayanti, bringing back Vijay Salgaonkar for the final chapter of the popular Hindi thriller franchise.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film reunites Devgn with Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor and Ishita Dutta, while Jaideep Ahlawat joins the franchise in a key role. Prakash Raj is also part of the cast.
The film follows Vijay as he faces a fresh investigation and a new threat that puts the elaborate protection he built around his family under renewed pressure. The Hindi version is being presented as an original conclusion rather than a direct remake of the Malayalam Drishyam story.
Strong Advance Booking
Drishyam: The Conclusion generated substantial interest before its theatrical release. The Times of India reported that the film crossed Rs 50 crore in domestic advance bookings, including blocked seats, ahead of its release.
According to the Hindustan Times live updates provided on Friday, the film was selling at a rapid pace on BookMyShow, with reports of around 68,000 tickets being sold per hour by 11 am.
The film had also reportedly recorded strong morning occupancy, with early trade figures indicating a robust start.
However, opening-day estimates and trade projections should not be confused with the film’s final box-office collection.
October 2 Connection Returns
The choice of October 2 for the release carries significance for the franchise. The date has been closely associated with Vijay Salgaonkar since the first Drishyam, in which events surrounding October 2 became central to his carefully constructed alibi.
The third film revisits that legacy while attempting to bring Vijay’s story to a definitive conclusion.
What Critics Are Saying
Early reviews have offered differing assessments of the finale.
Hindustan Times gave the film three stars, describing it as dramatic and nostalgic while arguing that some elements require audiences to accept too much at face value.
The Times of India rated the film 3.5/5, praising its ability to maintain tension while noting that the familiar formula begins to show in places.
India Today described it as a thriller with clever twists but felt that the finale did not completely match the expectations surrounding the franchise’s farewell.
At the same time, early audience reactions reported by NDTV Profit highlighted the performances, twists and climax, with several viewers expressing enthusiasm for the concluding chapter.
Drishyam 3 Cast
Ajay Devgn reprises his role as Vijay Salgaonkar, with Tabu returning as Meera Deshmukh and Shriya Saran as Nandini Salgaonkar.
Jaideep Ahlawat enters the franchise as a police officer who takes up the investigation, while Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav also return.
Abhishek Pathak, who directed Drishyam 2, has again directed the Hindi franchise finale.
The film is positioned as the conclusion of the Hindi Drishyam saga, with the makers choosing a different story from the Malayalam franchise rather than directly adapting its third instalment.
