Police in Bhubaneswar have arrested a 26-year-old individual in connection with a rape case that dates back nearly three years.
The arrest was made by the Infocity Police following renewed efforts in the investigation.
The accused, identified as Shubhajit Pradhan, was taken into custody on Tuesday in relation to the 2023 incident.
Allegations Linked to 2023 Incident
According to the complaint filed by the survivor, the alleged incident took place on May 19, 2023. The 23-year-old woman had reportedly celebrated her birthday earlier that day in the Info City area.
Police sources indicate that after the celebration, the accused allegedly took her to a hotel, where the assault is said to have occurred. The survivor further stated that the accused later assured her of marriage, which influenced her initial response following the incident.
Case Filed After Alleged Promise Was Not Fulfilled
The complaint was formally lodged after the accused allegedly failed to fulfil the promise of marriage. Based on the survivor’s statement, a case was registered at Infocity Police Station.
Authorities noted that the matter remained under investigation for an extended period before the recent arrest was made.

Officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to establish all facts related to the case. Police are expected to gather additional evidence and statements as part of the legal process.
