A gang of five dacoits stormed the house of Basant Sahu in Balabhadrapur village under Nayagarh Sadar police station late at night and looted gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh along with Rs 76,000 cash.
The criminals broke open the door and entered the house. They assaulted Sahu’s wife, forcing her to reveal where the ornaments were kept. The gang took away two gold necklaces, two gold chains, other ornaments, cash, and even a mobile phone before fleeing.
The incident has sparked outrage in the locality. Residents expressed concern over repeated dacoities in Nayagarh Sadar and Town police station areas. They alleged that despite several incidents in the past months, the police have failed to crack a single case.
Locals pointed out that dacoits strike every few months, vanish, and return again, leaving police helpless. They accused officers of neglecting investigations and focusing more on ceremonial appearances than crime control.
The series of robberies has turned Nayagarh into a hotspot for criminal activity. Traders and families fear further attacks, while police teams, including scientific squads, have yet to deliver results.
