Virat Kohli delivered a masterclass performance as Royal Challengers Bengaluru kicked off their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign with a commanding six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Chasing a challenging target of 202, RCB cruised to victory in just 15.4 overs, with Kohli anchoring the innings through an unbeaten 69 off 38 balls.

‘That Shot’ Steals the Spotlight

While Kohli’s innings featured a mix of power and precision, one particular shot became the highlight of the match.

Facing Eshan Malinga, Kohli executed a flawless lofted straight drive that combined perfect timing, balance, and elegance. The ball sailed effortlessly into the stands, leaving fans and experts mesmerised.

Kevin Pietersen’s Viral Commentary

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was on commentary duty, couldn’t hold back his admiration.

He praised Kohli’s technique and natural ability, saying that such skill cannot be acquired or replicated easily. His remark—“You can’t buy what Virat Kohli has”—quickly went viral, capturing the essence of the batter’s unique talent.

Match Highlights: RCB’s Dominant Chase

Kohli’s brilliance was complemented by Devdutt Padikkal, as the duo stitched together a rapid 101-run partnership for the second wicket in just 45 balls.

RCB’s batting unit displayed aggressive intent and composure, finishing at 203/4 to seal an emphatic victory and begin their title defence on a high note.

What’s Next for RCB?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 5, once again at their home ground, as they look to continue their strong start in the tournament.
