The Pakistan Super League 2026 opening match sparked controversy after Hyderabad Kingsmen’s white ball turned pink due to jersey colour transfer.
Labuschagne Lodges Complaint
The clash between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium stunned fans when the white ball gradually changed colour. Australia all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne, representing Hyderabad Kingsmen, noticed the issue and complained to the umpire. He said he had “never seen anything like this” in his career.
Labuschagne explained that the colour from his team’s jersey rubbed off onto the ball, turning it pink and later red. He told reporters after the match that he raised the matter with the umpires during the second over. He expressed hope that franchise owners would resolve the issue quickly.
Fans React and PSL Embarrassed
The incident embarrassed the PSL, with fans questioning how poor-quality kits were allowed in a professional tournament. Social media erupted with memes and criticism, while Hyderabad Kingsmen posted a cheeky message congratulating Lahore Qalandars for winning their “first pink-ball game.”
Labuschagne compared the situation to rare instances where paint from bats or pads transfers onto the ball, but stressed he had never seen clothing cause such a problem.
