Jharsuguda Cyber and Economic Offences Police arrested a woman for creating a fake Instagram account and posting defamatory content using another person’s identity.
The accused, Mahamaya Biswal (38), wife of Umashankar Mallik from Canal Road, Bhadrak, allegedly opened a fake Instagram account using the name and photo of Debendra Kumar Nayak from Belpahad Gumadera. Nayak filed a complaint stating that the posts damaged his reputation among friends and relatives.
Cyber police traced the origin of the fake account through technical analysis and digital evidence. Based on the findings, they identified Biswal as the accused. She was arrested on Thursday and produced in court.
Authorities confirmed that the posts were intended to mislead and defame Nayak.
