Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has applied to surrender his Indian passport at the High Commission of India in London.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed this on Friday, stating that they will examine the application in light of existing rules and procedures. Modi has reportedly acquired citizenship of Vanuatu.

Despite this, the MEA affirmed that they will continue to pursue the legal case against him, which includes allegations of bid-rigging, money laundering, and violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Tahawwur Rana’s Extradition

In a related development, the MEA also commented on the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is accused of involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks.

India is closely coordinating with US authorities to complete the necessary formalities for his extradition.

Recently, Rana renewed his application for a stay on his extradition, citing health concerns and the risk of torture in India. His previous emergency bid was rejected by the US Supreme Court.
