A tragic road accident in Kodala, Ganjam, late Thursday night, claimed one life and left another person critically injured.
The collision occurred near the Melisahu Petrol Pump on the Bhubaneswar-Asika main road when a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle head-on.
According to reports, Kumar Babu Behera (45), a resident of Kodala, rode his motorcycle (OD 02BZ 9341) with Purna Chandra Nahak (36) of Arjunpalli as pillion. Behera had finished work and was dropping Nahak back to his village. Suddenly, the truck (OR 07 Y2546) approached from the opposite direction and struck them violently.
The impact threw both riders onto the road, causing severe injuries. Immediately, locals rushed them to the Kodala Community Health Centre. Doctors declared Kumar Babu Behera dead on arrival. Meanwhile, they provided first aid to Purna Chandra Nahak before shifting him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.
Police reached the accident site quickly and took control of the situation. They seized the truck and detained the driver and helper for questioning. Furthermore, officers confirmed that they have launched a detailed investigation. Authorities also sent the deceased’s body for post-mortem examination.
The accident has sparked concern among residents about road safety along the busy Bhubaneswar-Asika route. Consequently, locals demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better monitoring of heavy vehicles at night.
Authorities assured the public that they are investigating the matter thoroughly. In addition, police continue to maintain a strong presence in the area to prevent further incidents.
