The Government of Odisha will observe Zero Fatality Fortnight from November 16 to 30, 2025, with the goal of eliminating road accident deaths through coordinated action and public participation.

The Commerce and Transport Department will lead the initiative in close collaboration with district administrations, police departments, Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), and other agencies. The campaign will focus on the four pillars of road safety: Enforcement, Engineering, Education, and Emergency Care.

During the fortnight, authorities will enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy against traffic violations. RTOs, police, and district officials will conduct intensive checks across highways, markets, schools, and other high-traffic zones. They will take action against overspeeding, drunk driving, mobile phone use while driving, and violations of helmet or seat-belt rules under the Motor Vehicles Act.

District administrations will monitor accident-prone black spots and coordinate with road engineering agencies to implement corrective measures. Officials will prioritise repairing damaged stretches, installing signage, and removing design flaws to improve safety.

Alongside enforcement, the government will launch large-scale awareness campaigns to promote responsible road behaviour. Both government and private organisations will join efforts to spread the message that every life matters. Citizens will also be encouraged to act as Good Samaritans by helping accident victims promptly.

Odisha previously observed Zero Fatality Week, which significantly reduced accident deaths. Building on that success, the government has expanded the initiative into a fortnight-long program.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi urged citizens to embrace the message “Return Home Safely”, reminding them that every life is precious and even one death is too many. The government has identified road safety as a key priority in its vision of a Developed Odisha, and it appeals to all citizens to treat road safety as a collective responsibility.
