Maoist Leaders Chandranna and Prabhath Surrender in Telangana

Pulluri Prasad Rao, known as Chandranna, and Bandi Prakash, alias Prabhath, appeared before the police in Hyderabad. Chandranna, 64, had been underground for 45 years. Prabhath, 55, spent 42 years in hiding. Both leaders held key positions in the Maoist organization and operated across Telangana and neighboring states.

Chandranna joined the Maoist movement in 1980 and served as a central committee member for 17 years. He cited health concerns as the reason for his surrender. Prabhath began his involvement with the Radical Youth League in 1983 and later joined the Sirpur armed Dalam.

The Telangana Police confirmed that 427 Maoist cadres surrendered in 2025 under the state’s rehabilitation policy. Among them were two central committee members and eight state committee members. The DGP stated that 64 cadres of Telangana origin remain active in the CPI (Maoist) party.

Authorities handed over reward amounts to the surrendered leaders. Chandranna received ₹25 lakh, while Prabhath was given ₹20 lakh. These rewards were part of the official surrender policy.

The surrender of these senior Maoist leaders marks a significant moment in the state’s efforts to weaken insurgent networks and promote reintegration. Their decision to join the mainstream reflects a shift in strategy and opens dialogue for peace.
