The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a fresh low‑pressure area over the Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, raising the likelihood of heavy rainfall across Odisha.
Officials said the cyclonic circulation, which was over Myanmar and adjoining areas yesterday, has now shifted to the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, a low‑pressure system is expected to form soon, enhancing rainfall activity across Odisha in the coming days.
The IMD has advised fishermen and residents in low‑lying areas to remain cautious, as the regional weather centre continues to monitor the evolving system. Further warnings on rainfall distribution, wind speed and sea conditions are expected.
This marks another significant monsoon development over the Bay of Bengal, with Odisha bracing for intense showers and possible flood‑like conditions in vulnerable districts.
