Dominica: Mehul Choksi, the fugitive jeweller wanted in India in connection with the ₹13,500 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud, has been denied bail by the Dominica high court.
The court also highlighted that Mehul Choksi did not offer any strong surety before the court while he sought bail.
Judge Wynante Adrien-Roberts deemed Choksi a ‘flight risk’.
Mehul Choksi had approached the high court after his bail petition was rejected by a Roseau magistrate. He has been accused of illegally entering the island nation. Additionally, the Dominican government on Thursday declared Choksi a ‘prohibited immigrant’ in the nation.
On May 23, Choksi went missing from Antigua and Barbuda, where he had been staying as a citizen since he left India in January 2018. He was then traced and detained in neighbouring Dominica.
