The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suspended Shreemayee Mishra, its General Secretary (Women Affairs), citing “anti-party activities.”
The decision follows her recent social media posts that allegedly criticised party leadership using metaphorical references like “Dhritarashtra.”
Party insiders confirmed that Mishra had received prior warnings before the suspension order was issued. However, Mishra dismissed the move, stating she hadn’t renewed her party membership for over a year. “If a party suspends someone who isn’t even a member, it’s laughable,” she said.
In a strongly worded rebuttal, Mishra emphasised her commitment to dignity and Odia identity. “Odisha has long been governed under the influence of a non-Odia. Disrespecting an Odia woman’s honour is unacceptable,” she said, adding, “A leader who claims to respect mothers has now shown he cannot make independent decisions.”

Her remarks come amid growing internal dissent within the BJD. Earlier this month, senior leader and former minister Prafulla Mallik was also suspended for questioning the party’s post-election strategy.
This latest episode signals deeper fissures within the party as it grapples with criticism and calls for reform following its 2024 electoral setback
