India capped off an impressive campaign at the World Boxing Championships 2025 with four medals, including two historic golds, on Sunday.

Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Minakshi Hooda (48kg) were crowned world champions, while Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) clinched silver and Olympian Pooja Rani (80kg) settled for bronze.

Jaismine’s Redemption

On Saturday, 24-year-old Jaismine stunned top seed and Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the women’s 57kg final, winning 4-1 by split decision.

Szeremeta started aggressively, but Jaismine took control from the second round, using her reach and superior technique to dominate.

“This feeling can’t be expressed, I’m so happy to be a world champion,” Jaismine said. “After my early exit at Paris 2024, I worked on my technique and mental game. This is the result of that effort.”

Jaismine reached the final with a flawless run, securing four straight 5-0 unanimous wins against top opponents, including fellow Paris Olympian Omailyn Alcala (Venezuela) in the semis.

Minakshi Creates History

On Sunday, Minakshi Hooda defeated Kazakhstan’s Paris 2024 bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay 4-1 to clinch the women’s 48kg title.

Minakshi too enjoyed a dominant campaign, outclassing Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan (semis), England’s Alice Pumphrey (quarters), and China’s Wang Qiuping — all by unanimous decisions.

Their triumphs mark the first-ever Indian gold medals under the aegis of World Boxing, the sport’s new global governing body.

Other Medal Winners

In the women’s 80+kg category, Nupur Sheoran narrowly lost 3-2 to Agata Kaczmarska of Poland in the final, taking home silver.

Pooja Rani, a seasoned Olympian, secured bronze after a 4-1 semi-final loss to England’s Emily Asquith.

Mixed Results for Lovlina, Nikhat

India had fielded 20 boxers at the event. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen returned to the ring but fell short of the podium. Borgohain lost in the second round (75kg), while Zareen was edged out in the 51kg quarterfinals by Türkiye’s Buse Naz Çakıroğlu.

India’s Medal Tally at World Boxing Championships 2025:

  • 🥇 Minakshi Hooda – Women’s 48kg

  • 🥇 Jaismine Lamboria – Women’s 57kg

  • 🥈 Nupur Sheoran – Women’s 80+kg

  • 🥉 Pooja Rani – Women’s 80kg
