A young woman narrowly escaped an attempted rape in Odisha’s Khordha district after being lured by a man offering her a lift from the local bus stand.
The accused took her to a secluded area inside the Ratanpur Reserve Forest, where he allegedly tried to assault her.
The woman managed to break free and fled deeper into the forest. Lost and terrified, she contacted the police for help despite her phone battery being critically low.
A massive search operation was launched involving over 50 personnel from Infovalley, Jatni, Tamando, Khandagiri, and Chandaka police stations. After nearly five hours of combing the dense forest, the woman was safely rescued late Sunday night.
Police officers counselled the survivor, who initially hesitated to file a complaint but later lodged an FIR after receiving support. Based on her statement, the accused was arrested and taken into custody.
Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events. The swift rescue operation has drawn praise for the coordinated response across multiple police units.
