Bhubaneswar: In order to enforce strict discipline in jail premises, “Operation Cleanup” is underway in various jails by the Directorate of Prisons.
According to reports, a special squad under direct supervision of IG Prisons is conducting intelligence-based surprise operations in various jails against contrabands etc.
They have already done surprise searches of 6 jails and it will continue further, officials informed.
Under this “Operation Cleanup”, hardcore gangsters are being shifted to various jails to prevent any meeting of minds to criminal conspiracy. As many as 4 to 5 hardcore gangsters have been shifted to various jails and this exercise will further continue, said the officials.
Besides, honest staff and warders of jail are being rewarded and felicitated for recovery of contrabands, etc.
On the other hand, the jail staff have been barred to carry mobiles to jails during office hours except for the superintendent and jailor. But they too cannot carry mobiles inside.
