In a decisive move against rising crime, Jeypore police arrested 14 notorious criminals involved in various criminal activities across the region.

The arrests were announced during a press conference held at the Jeypore Town Police Station on Saturday, led by Koraput’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ambit Mohanty.

The apprehended individuals were linked to serious offences, including murder, robbery, extortion, and looting. Acting on intelligence, the police conducted a raid near Bhutnath Temple in Jeypore, where a group was allegedly planning a robbery. Six individuals—Shiva Suna (28) from Gopabandhu Nagar, Sunil Paraja alias Lalu (21) from Medri Sahi, Hari Nayak (22), Suresh Harijan (25) from Jayanagar, Mani Kantha (26) from Prasad Rao Peta 4th Line, and Kartik Khud (26) from Yamunaguda—were arrested on the spot.

In a separate operation in the Jamunaguda area, four individuals—Bijay Nayak (18) from Bapuji Nagar, Shubham Bishoyi (22) from LIC Colony, Rajkumar Kakadi (23) from Nua Guda, and Ishwar Chhetia (28) from Chhotaguda—were detained for alleged extortion activities. Additionally, two suspects, Ramanath Suna (27) from Bapuji Nagar and Rajib Khil (24) from Gopabandhu Nagar, were arrested for looting ₹1 lakh from a farmer. In another case, Shankar Garada (19) and Rohit Hial (19) from Kalaguda, under Jeypore Sadar Police Station, were apprehended for robbing a motorbike rider.

The police seized several weapons, cash, a motorcycle, and jewellery from the accused. According to the ASP, the arrested individuals are linked to four separate criminal cases, including organised crime, that had heightened concerns in the region. The police have launched “Operation Zero Tolerance Towards Crime” to curb such activities, with ongoing raids planned to maintain law and order.

Following the arrests, the accused were produced in court. However, the operation faced resistance as family members of the detainees protested outside the Jeypore Town Police Station. Jeypore Town Police Station Officer Ullas Chandra Raut assured that such operations would continue to ensure safety and security in the region.
