In a landmark outreach under the Mukhyamantri Bayu Swasthya Seva Yojana (MBSSY), a total of 1,398 critical patients from remote villages of Malkangiri district received free specialist and superspecialist treatment during a four-day medical camp held at the District Headquarters Hospital from August 18 to 21.

The camp addressed a wide spectrum of ailments:

  • 🫀 Cardiology: 260 patients
  • 🧠 Neurology: 415 patients
  • 🧪 Gastroenterology: 263 patients
  • 🧬 Endocrinology: 229 patients
  • 🩺 Nephrology: 231 patients
  • 🔍 Laparoscopic Surgery: 6 patients
  • 📈 ECG Tests: 130 patients
  • 📹 Endoscopy: 59 patients

A team of superspecialists from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, led the clinical interventions. Key members included:

  • Dr. Kaibalya Ranjan Dash (Gastroenterology)
  • Dr. Aujjwalya Kumar Jena (Neurology)
  • Dr. Aruna Acharya (Nephrology)
  • Dr. Ranjan Kumar Mohanty (Cardiology)
  • Dr. Bijay Kumar Sahoo (Endocrinology)
  • Dr. Jyotirmaya Nayak (Surgery)
  • Dr. Raj Mahapatra (Anaesthesia, PGIMER Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar)

They were supported by senior consultants, including Dr. Dhirej Kumar Lenka, Dr. Sanghamitra Sahoo, Dr. Sitakanta Panda, and Dr. Avansh Taunk, who arrived early to document case histories and prepare patients for procedures.

To facilitate the camp, a temporary ICU with modern diagnostic equipment was installed, ensuring high-quality care in a region often underserved by tertiary health services.

The initiative drew widespread appreciation from locals and civil society. “Such high-level treatment in our forest-surrounded rural area was unimaginable. It became a reality under the leadership of our Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi,” said several discharged patients.
