Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) has suspended Inspector Rajesh Baliarsingh on charges of misconduct and dereliction of duty.
The action follows allegations that Baliarsingh, currently the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Astarang Police Station in Puri, protected ganja (cannabis) mafias during his previous posting as a Sub-Inspector in Koraput district’s Jeypore Town Police Station.
A police team from Koraput had been in Bhubaneswar for two days to question him. Baliarsingh was interrogated at the Capital Police Station but reportedly went absconding, leading to a raid on his government residence.
The suspension order, which was issued after the case was escalated to the DGP, states that a disciplinary proceeding is being initiated against Baliarsingh for his “gross misconduct.” He has been placed under the disciplinary control of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range (CR), Cuttack. The suspension is effective immediately.
