Police today seized 50 grams of brown sugar and Rs 25 lakh in cash in a raid on a rented house in Elakha Mirsahi village within Bhadrak Town police station.
A woman identified as Fatima, who was present at the house during the raid, has been detained by the police on charges of smuggling narcotics drugs.
Acting on intelligence input, a joint team of Bhadrak Town, Rural and Old Bazaar police led by Additional SP Anshuman Dwivedi conducted the raid in the presence of Bhadrak Tehsildar as Magistrate.
During the raid, the police seized Rs 25 lakh cash and 50 grams of brown sugar estimated to be over Rs 5 lakh.
Bhadrak SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat said that the woman in question, Fatima, is under detention for questioning and further investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, the police suspect that the detainee is a major agent in the brown sugar trade in Bhadrak.
