Jajpur police arrested BJD’s former organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das’ brother, Bhaba Prasad Das, on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a vegetable vendor.
Acting on a complaint from the vendor, Nagen Nayak, the police filed a case against Bhaba under various sections of the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS) at the Jajpur Town police station on Friday.
Bhaba, who previously served as the chairperson of Jajpur Municipality, was detained late Friday night and arrested the following day for allegedly attacking and threatening the vendor, as well as snatching away his money at Biraja Haat.
After a medical check-up, the police produced him before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) in Jajpur on Saturday. The SDJM ordered judicial custody for Bhaba as he did not apply for bail.
Nagen Nayak had complained to the Jajpur Town police station on Friday, claiming that Bhaba Prasad Das and his associates assaulted him at Biraja Haat on Thursday while he was selling vegetables. “Bhaba and his group roughed me up, ruining vegetables worth approximately Rs 10,000 and also took Rs 1,200 from me,” Nayak alleged in his complaint.
Additionally, two other vendors filed separate complaints against Bhaba Prakash Das and his group for purportedly engaging in altercations with them. Following these allegations, three cases were initiated against Bhaba at the Jajpur Town police station.
