Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly narrowly escaped a major accident on Thursday when his car was involved in a collision on the Durgapur Expressway.
The incident occurred at Dantanpur when a lorry abruptly overtook Ganguly’s convoy, forcing the driver to apply the brakes suddenly. This led to a chain reaction, causing the cars behind Ganguly’s vehicle to collide, with one of them hitting Ganguly’s car.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accident. However, two cars in Ganguly’s convoy sustained minor damage. Ganguly was forced to wait on the road for approximately 10 minutes before continuing to Burdwan University, where he attended a scheduled event.
Despite the unsettling incident, Ganguly remained composed and proceeded with his commitments at Burdwan University as planned. He interacted with students and dignitaries at the event, discussing the future of Indian cricket and sharing stories from his illustrious career. Known for his calm demeanour and leadership, Ganguly handled the situation with his trademark poise.
In October 2024, Ganguly was appointed as the Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, overseeing all cricketing ventures, including the Delhi Capitals Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Ahead of the 2025 WPL season, Ganguly played a key role in strengthening the Delhi Capitals squad, bringing in fresh talent from the WPL auction. He expressed confidence in the squad’s potential and aimed to guide the team toward championship success. With the WPL 2025 season underway, Ganguly has been actively involved in mentoring players and strategizing for the Delhi Capitals Women’s team.
