Puri: Baselisahi Police busted a dacoity gang by arresting five notorious criminals on Wednesday early morning while they were planning to loot tourists in Puri.
According to police, Sub Inspector Budharay Majhi along with his staff were performing night patrolling inside the Baselisahi area when they received information at around 5.15 AM from a reliable source that five or more persons had assembled at the newly constructed Kalyani Mandap, near Mangalaghat area and were planning to commit dacoity from tourists.
Acting on the reliable inputs, the patrolling team raided the spot and apprehended five accused persons with deadly weapons and other incriminating materials.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dibana Behera (27), Mahavir Behera (19), Subash Behera (44), Dipu alias Rakesh Behera (28) of Gokhasahi, Badal alias Manoj Kumar Barik (23) of Masanichandi, all under Baselisahi police station limits.
Incriminating articles including two live bombs, two iron swords, two iron rods, five empty beer bottles, one knife, one torchlight, and one pouch of chilli powder were seized from them, the police said.
As per police records, the five arrested persons and habitual offenders and several criminal cases are registered against them at different police stations.
A total of 28 cases are registered against accused Dibana Behera, while 11 cases are against accused Mahavir Behera at Baseli Sahi PS. Similarly, six cases are pending against accused Manoj Kumar Barik at Baseli Sahi, Kumbharpada, Sadar, and Chandanpur police stations. Besides, a total of 21 cases are registered against accused Subash Behera and 7 cases against accused Rakesh Behera are registered with Baselisahi police station.
