Bhubaneswar: A BJP MLA from Deogarh today attempted to drink sanitizer in Odisha Assembly alleging the State government’s ‘failure’ in resolving the farmers’ mandi issues.
BJP MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi took the extreme step while a briefing was underway by State Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain during the House session today.
Other legislators including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha refrained Panigrahi from drinking sanitizer and recovered the toxic material from him.
On February 26, the BJP MLA had threatened in the Odisha Assembly that he will self immolate himself if delay in paddy procurement process at several mandis across Odisha is not tackled in a proper manner.
The legislator had been criticizing the government’s mismanagement at mandis and irregularities in paddy procurement, including faulty token system.
